Making your smartphone less attractive

Fighting smartphone attractiveness is an ongoing challenge and starts as soon as you wake up.

87 per cent of people check their phones within the first 5 minutes of waking up – this has the potential to derail your day before you have even started.

Did you know that the average smartphone owner will click, tap, swipe, or scroll at least 2600 times a day.

With over two-thirds of people checking their phones up to 160 times a day and at least half of this during working hours you must consider how you can make your smartphone less attractive.

Idea 1: Turn off every notification.

Enter your notification centre for your smartphone and start turning off!

– No badges.

– No banners.

– No screen lock notifications.

– Nothing in the notification centre.

– No buzzes.

– No sounds.

– No red circles anywhere for anything.

Complete this for every individual app you have on your smartphone.

These tools are designed to attract you to your smartphone and you don’t need them.

Eliminate them as a rule.

If for a reason you need a certain app to have a temporary notification, you can always turn it on for the notification and turn it off again after it is not needed.

Idea 2: Fly with your feet on the ground.

Remember the good old days when you turned on the flight mode on your smartphone for the whole duration of a flight to not affect the planes electronics?

Your phone was disengaged and you were not distracted – sound like a good idea?

Use the appropriate silent features on your smartphone.

– Turn it off.

– Activate flight mode even if you are not flying.

– Activate Do Not Disturb features.

Idea 3: Turn your phone face down.

While not ground-breaking – if you must have your phone with you – turn it face down to remove the attractiveness.

If you can’t see the screen, you are less likely to look at it – a simple step that works.

Follow these most direct tips:

Tip 1 – Turn off your notifications app by app to limit any attractiveness.

Tip 2 – Apply all the flight mode and do not disturb features to silence your smartphone.

Tip 3 – Turn your smartphone off.

Tip 4 – Turn your smartphone face down.
