Nubia is expected to break into the foldable smartphone market by the end of 2023. The device is thought to launch as a successor to the current Z50 Ultra Android flagship, albeit with a much larger main display and – naturally – a completely different build. However, there are already hints that the brand has no intention of following the biggest fiexible-display trends with its first-gen offering.

Google has reflected the biggest influences in the flexible-display market with the launch of a Pixel Fold looking most like the OPPO Find N2 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 before it. However, it is possible that one of the next brands to get into this space will not be following this crowd in 2023.

From one perspective, it seems the “Z60 Fold’s” main 7.3-inch AMOLED display seems to bend outwards in its first-ever leaked render, without a cover display in sight. This might indicate the adoption of the same form-factor as Huawei’s first-gen Mate Xs, rather than its latest Mate X3.

Furthermore, the alleged Z50 Ultra successor is depicted as having a notch for its main (and possibly only) cameras in 1 half of its display. Accordingly, it seems Nubia is starting out with hardware that could be more up-to-date in its first-gen foldable.

It is a slight shame, as the brand’s parent company ZTE is said to have collaborated on the most advanced alternative yet.
