Get It for Its Camera Prowess

It has been a delightful experience using the OPPO Reno10 5G these past few weeks. This is OPPO’s latest midrange smartphone in the Reno lineup which also includes the Reno10 Pro 5G and were both launched early last month.

We’ve already taken it through our first look review and camera performance review so this is a full review after close to a month with the Reno10 5G.

Watch our unboxing below and first look video below:

DESIGN

Coming from the Reno8 from last year, I can say that the Reno10 is an upgrade and users from the older Reno7 and Reno6 will appreciate all the features the new sibling comes with.

Reno10 is more premium with its glass back that comes in a matte finish for easy handling and keeping the phone smudge-free.

Reno10 comes in Black, Ice Blue, and Gold colours. We got our unit in Black which looks really good.

The Top left has a distinctive pill-shaped camera island.

Besides the normal buttons and ports, the Reno10 comes with dual microphones for better call clarity and an IR blaster that allows you to control some home electronics – the phone comes with an IR remote app so you can control the Air conditioner or TV.

Biometrics include speedy face unlock and an equally fast under-display fingerprint reader. The former is more convenient but less secure.

Switching over to the front is a 10-bit 6.7″ AMOLED curved screen. It comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits brightness, HDR10+ support and 100%+ sRGB/DCI-P3 wide colour gamut.

This is an excellent screen for consuming multimedia content as you can stream Netflix content in FHD(L1 Widevine) and HDR – the punchy colours, clarity, and sharpness were all superb. The high refresh rate makes gaming and just interacting with the interface much more enjoyable. The peak brightness means you can use the phone outdoors without squinting when you’re out and about.

OPPO Reno10’s screen is protected by Asahi Glass Dragontrail Star 2 protection which provides better durability against corner drops for the phone. It is the latest glass protection of 2023 made by Japanese tech giant AGC. The phone also comes with a factory-pre-fitted screen protector.

Overall, I have loved the sleek look and the build quality of the Reno10.

PERFORMANCE

The recently launched MediaTek Dimensity 7050 5G chipset powers the Reno10 coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. ColorOS 13.1 adds 8GB of virtual RAM. There’s support for expandable storage via the microSD card slot.

Even in the most demanding tasks, the Reno10 will chug away smoothly. Switching between apps when multitasking and playing graphics intense games will be handled with no hiccup. The Reno is a very dependable phone. Additionally, the thermal management is great as you can play games like Call of Duty Mobile without the phone getting considerably warm even with the settings cranked up to the max.

You will be getting excellent performance for your money.

Android 13 and ColorOS 13.1 run the show and OPPO has promised that the phone will get up to 2 years of major Android OS updates and 3 years of security patches.

CAMERAS

Like its older siblings, the Reno10 stays true to the series’ camera-centric ambitions with a new setup on the pill-shaped island. OPPO reno10 5G has a 64MP primary camera, a 32MP portrait telephoto(2x Zoom) lens and an additional 8MP ultrawide camera. It can record video at 1080p 30fps UltraSteady and 4K 30FPS.

For selfies, we get a 2MP front-facing camera in the cutout and support video recording with 1080p 30/60fps with Ultra Steady.

Modes range from Night to Pro, Dual Video, slo-mo and timelapse.

You can go read our full camera performance review here but all you need to know is that the Reno10 is a very versatile camera smartphone. It captures photos with excellent dynamic range, exposure, textures, vibrancy, brightness, well-detailed, and suitable background blur even in lowlight scenarios. The videos are also visually pleasing.

The portrait mode is really excellent thanks to the dedicated 32MP portrait telephoto(2x Zoom) lens.

If you are looking for a mid-range smartphone with camera prowess, then the Reno10 should be on top of your list.

BATTERY

There’s a 5000mAh battery inside that supports 67W fast wired PD 3.0 charging. The new chipset brings with it efficient atter performance as you can go two days with light use and mixed-use will give you a day and a half of charge.

Topping it up to 100% will need 45 minutes. If you’re in a rush, you can juice it up to 40% in under 15 minutes and 75% in half an hour.

OPPO’s Battery Health Engine extends the phones recharge cycle life to over 1600 and the Reno10 will still be able to hold 80% of its charge which is really impressive compared to what Apple and Samsung offer for their devices – 500 cycles for Apple and 500 cycles for Samsung’s S series and 300 for its A series.

VERDICT

Besides it being a great camera smartphone, get the Reno10 for its attractive design and look, excellent performance even in demanding workloads, solid battery life and speedy charging.

This is a well-featured mid-range smartphone that will give you an excellent user experience and with OPPO’s timely software upgrades, you can be sure to use the phone for a few years.
