Google is not expected to release a Pixel 7a (curr. US$374 on Amazon) successor for a while yet. Typically, the company refreshes its mid-range smartphone offering during its Google I/O conferences. In the last few years, the company has hosted these during the spring, with Google I/O 2023 taking place on May 10.
Thus, the Pixel 8a is likely still about six months away. Nonetheless, Kamila Wojciechowska has already obtained official wallpaper images, embedded below. In short, Wojciechowska claims that Google has created three sets, each with lighter and darker versions to suit Light and Dark display modes. Supposedly, Google has codenamed these wallpapers ’emerald’, ‘licorice’ and ‘sky’, which display Titanite, Hematite and Barite stones, respectively.
SmartPrix notes that the Pixel 8a could come with more exclusive wallpapers, though. For example, Google is also expected to launch the Pixel 8a in Porcelain to match its other recent Pixel devices, which should come with a corresponding wallpaper too. Additionally, Wojciechowska has discovered a different wallpaper produced by Antti Kalevi, an artist who designed the ‘Motif’ collection for the Pixel 6 series. For reference, previous leaks have already revealed the Pixel 8a’s design and chipset usage, which we have covered separately.
