William J. Wallace, 75, of Saranac Lake, passed away at home on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2023 with his wife Betty at his side.

He was surrounded by his family, daughter Jennifer, her husband Brett Rogers, daughter Susan, her husband Keith Hooker and son Michael and his wife Courtney Wallace, as well as grandchildren Samantha Hooker, Madison Ketchum, Tyler Hooker, Nevaeh Christmas Jacque Hooker, Marie Hooker, Gracie Christmas, Lucas Rogers, Sophie Christmas, Landin Wallace, Blake Wallace and Skyler Wallace.

William was born on Sept. 4, 1948, the son of William and Alice (Munn) Wallace. He married Betty Newman on Jan. 16, 1971 in Emerson, New Jersey.

He enlisted and served in the United States Navy from April of 1969 through March 1973. He was a police officer in Saranac Lake from 1977 to 1981and a corrections officer at FCI Ray Brook from 1981 to 2001. He then retired and became a school bus driver for Saranac Lake Central School District for over 20 years until 2019.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Friday, Jan. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. A prayer service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Martin Cline officiating.

Donations can be made in memory of William Wallace to High Peaks Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
