West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) was recently named a Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) institution by the National Fire Academy, a division of the U.S. Fire Administration, for curriculum adopted and implemented by the Fire Science Technology program at WGTC.

The FESHE recognition certificate is an acknowledgement that a collegiate emergency services degree program meets the minimum standards of excellence established by FESHE professional development committees and the National Fire Academy, according to the National Fire Academy’s website.

The National Fire Academy FESHE Program works with coordinators of 2 and 4-year academic fire and emergency medical services (EMS) management degree programs by providing specialized training courses and advanced management programs for middle and top-level fire officers, fire service instructors, technical professionals, and representatives from allied professions.

“West Georgia Technical College’s recognition through the National Fire Academy’s FESHE program allows us to provide higher quality educational standards for students pursuing their Fire Science Technology degree,” said Cruz Lake, Fire Science Technology Program Director. “This allows the students to provide higher quality service to their departments and communities through personal development of those high standards.”
