BROCKTON − The city of Brockton has spoken. In an online poll conducted by The Enterprise, you told us what restaurant you think has the best fries around, and the winner may surprise some, be a no-brainer for others, and be a new discovery for others.

A 74-year-old Mashpee woman was killed and the driver of a sedan was critically injured in a crash on I-495 in Raynham. “State Police received a report that the vehicle veered from the middle lane into the thickly-wooded median and struck several trees,” State Police spokesperson Tim McGuirk said in an email.

 A 17-year-old male suspect who was allegedly involved in the Fourth of July shooting that injured another 17-year-old outside an East Bridgewater apartment complex was arrested and charged, according to the East Bridgewater Police Department.

In an online poll conducted by The Enterprise, Brockton Beer Company won in a landslide. In all 12,388 votes were cast for 10 popular restaurants in the Brockton area area known for great fries. Of those, Brockton Beer Company, at 121 Main St., received 6,461 votes or 52.16%.

Mashpee woman, 74, dies in crash on I-495 in Raynham; driver critically injured

One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 in Raynham. “State Police received a report that the vehicle veered from the middle lane into the thickly-wooded median and struck several trees,” State Police spokesperson Tim McGuirk said. “The vehicle rolled over, began emitting smoke, and came to rest on its roof with several large trees on top.” The passenger, 74-year-old Lana Testa, of Mashpee, died as a result of her injuries, McGuirk said.

Priya Tahiliani will take over as the interim superintendent of Brockton Public Schools next year, replacing Acting Superintendent James Cobbs, school committee members voted Tuesday evening. In a 7-1 vote, the Brockton School Committee selected Tahiliani, who most recently worked as superintendent of Everett Public Schools, over the other finalist, Jannell D. Pearson-Campbell.

On June 28, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that cities can fine or arrest people who sleep or set up tents in public spaces. The ruling overturned a lower court’s decision that prohibited cities from banning people experiencing homelessness from sleeping outside. As Brockton’s unhoused population continues to increase, city leaders have been considering ways to address the issue of homelessness, particularly in the downtown neighborhood.

Stoughton High School student shot and killed, another student injured in Boston

A Stoughton High School senior was fatally shot and another classmate was wounded in the same shooting incident in Mattapan, officials said. Stoughton Public Schools announced Saturday morning in aFacebookpost that Christian Cousins, a member of the Class of 2025, was shot and killed while in Mattapan with another Stoughton High student on July 5. “The second student was also shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” the school district said in its statement.
