1 seriously injured in collision between van, truck

AVON — Three people were injured, including at least one person who suffered serious injuries, when a minivan and commercial box truck collided on Monday afternoon, officials said.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of a crash at Harrison Boulevard and Pond Street about 3:30 p.m.

“Officers arrived to find a collision between a commercial vehicle and a minivan,” Fire Chief David Charest and Police Chief Jeffrey Bukunt said in a joint written statement. “The passenger vehicle sustained heavy damage on the front and sides of the car.”

All three men inside the minivan were injured, the chiefs said. The driver suffered the most serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a Rhode Island hospital from a landing zone at Avon Middle-High School. Brockton firefighters assisted at the landing zone.

The two other passengers were taken by ambulances to area hospitals with help from mutual aid responders.

The driver of the box truck, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured, the chiefs said.

The crash, including the cause, remains under investigation by Avon police.
