Vivo says localised smartphone components, invested Rs 3,500 crore in India operations, ET Telecom

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker Vivo Tuesday said it has localised various smartphone components since its inception in India. It has achieved 100% local assembly of motherboard, while battery (94%), chargers (97%), camera (77%), and fingerprint sensors (97%) are sourced locally, as per the data shared by the company for the period February 2023 to February 2024. “Since its inception, the company has nurtured partnerships with over 30 suppliers in India,” the smartphone brand said in a statement, marking 10 years of its operations in India.

Over the last 10 years, Vivo said it has manufactured over 150 million units of ‘Made in India’ smartphones at its manufacturing facility, adding that it has invested Rs 3,500 crores in its operations in the country.

Additionally, Vivo said it has exported domestically made smartphones worth Rs 400 crore since 2022.

“Over the last 10 years Vivo India has strengthened its distribution network with more than 70,000 retail touchpoints,” said the brand.

Citing data from market research firm Counterpoint, Vivo said its India retail partners have clocked earnings of Rs 15,000 crores cumulatively by selling its smartphones. and around 10,000 Vivo India retailers clock annual turnover of over Rs 1 crore.

It has grown from 30 authorised service centers and 200 staff members in 2015 to over 650 service centers and 2,500 trained staff members today,

As per Vivo, it generates around 2,00,000 jobs in India directly and indirectly

“We have created significant value in various aspects of Indian mobile ecosystem, from manufacturing smartphones locally to introducing global technological advancements and fostering community development. These have contributed to the Indian economy and helped shape the smartphone ecosystem,” said Geetaj Channana, Head Corporate Strategy, Vivo India.
