FG to unlock economic growth through science, technology, innovation – Minister


The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology has reiterated its commitment to driving economic growth and development through the power of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).

Speaking at a sectoral retreat on the implementation of Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji emphasised the crucial role of STI in achieving the Eight Presidential Priorities set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The advancement of Science, Technology, and Innovation is critical to realising our national aspirations,” Chief Nnaji said. “We must work together to overcome obstacles, develop actionable plans, and deliver meaningful results.”

The Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration across the entire STI ecosystem, saying, “Nigeria is blessed with abundant talent and resources. By leveraging Innovation, Science, and Technology, we can unlock new opportunities for growth, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Esubana Nko Asanye, emphasised the significance of the retreat, stating, “We have gathered to refine our strategies, ensure robust Performance Management Systems, and drive results for fast-tracked national development.”

The retreat aimed to address complex issues, improve service delivery, and enhance administrative efficiency. Participants acknowledged the enormity of challenges ahead but expressed commitment to collective effort and innovative solutions.

The Ministry’s initiative demonstrates its dedication to translating the President’s vision into tangible outcomes, restoring trust in democratic governance, and driving Nigeria’s national development agenda.

As the nation navigates its development journey, this retreat marks a pivotal moment in aligning efforts, fostering collaboration, and propelling progress.

The retreat aimed to align the efforts of STI stakeholders with the Presidential Priorities, which emphasize economic growth, social inclusion, infrastructural development, security, and good governance.

With a focus on delivering concrete outcomes, the Ministry is set to implement a robust Performance Management System to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective feedback mechanisms.

Similarly, the Director General of The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi(FIIRO), Dr Adamu Tutuwa Jummai, noted that as a Nation, Nigeria must chat a the appropriate pathways, that are very key to move country from consumption to production economy, as no country can develop depending on products importation from other nations.

“We are always behind the Minister to see to it that the mandate of the Ministry handling our technological challenges is pursued vigorously so as to promote Innovation, Science and Technology geared towards”

“This retreat to us is a Clarion call to align ourselves more with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as prioritized in eight points areas.

“We want to assure the Honorable Minister and the Permanent Secretary and everyone present here that we will support this government with all our strength to ensure that these areas are properly followed so as to put our country on the pedestal of development.” He added.
