Canton man accused of shooting livestock near Bardolph
A case of road rage in Macomb led to the arrest of a Canton man on weapons and animal cruelty charges.
Oliver Hoffman, 18, is accused of brandishing a weapon during a traffic altercation in the 300 block of East Jackson Street on Tuesday evening, Oct. 29.
Several firearms were found in his pickup truck.
A subsequent investigation by the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department connected Hoffman to the shooting of four bulls east of Bardolph.
Two of the animals died.
Hoffman admitted to shooting the livestock several hours before the road rage incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Hoffman is charged in the Macomb case with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful use of a weapon, and manufacturing of an assault weapon.
Sandburg celebrates opening of Science & Technology Center
The most impactful project on Sandburg’s Galesburg campus since its primary construction in 1969 is now complete.
The $27 million, 46,733-square-foot Science & Technology Center opened in August. This week, the college held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting for it.
Work on the two-story building began in early 2023. It houses classrooms, laboratories, offices, and clinical areas for Sandburg’s health professions, natural sciences, nursing, and dental hygiene programs. It also includes a business center and wellness suite for student use, allowing specialized spaces for students to focus on their academic success and mental health.
The completion of the new building is the first step in an updated campus master plan. Sandburg is also currently renovating its student center and plans to build an athletic and conference center.
One arrested, one wanted in Galesburg shooting
One of the suspects in a downtown Galesburg shooting almost four months ago is now in custody on attempted murder charges.
Gregory O. Wallace, 39, was apprehended Oct. 22 in Chicago by the FBI Fugitive Task Force and the Chicago Police Department, following an investigation by local authorities. Wallace was transferred this week to the Knox County jail.
He’s accused in the July 6 shooting of Mario D. Washington in the first block of South Cherry Street. Washington continues to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the shooting, according to police.
There is still an active warrant for James M. Wilson, 43, in the shooting. Anyone with information about Wilson’s location is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers.
Three arrested for child porn in Galesburg
Following a joint investigation by local authorities and Illinois State Police, three Galesburg men were arrested on child porn charges.
Kyle A. Clark, 38, was arrested last week on two counts of dissemination and two counts of possession of of child pornography.
Timothy S. Agans, 25, was arrested last week on 11 counts of possession of child pornography. He was also arrested for possession three years ago and completed a court diversion program.
On Thursday, police arrested Edward J. Cox, 25. He is charged with seven counts of possession of child pornography.
Police Chief Russ Idle said the department takes its mission to protect children in the community seriously.
“Those who would prey on our young people will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice,” he said.
