Flic has opened preorders for its Flic Duo smart button. This new device builds on its previous smart button technology with more features and flexibility.
Unlike previous models, the Duo lets owners use motion-based actions like swipes and rotations on top of the traditional button presses. You can push it, double push it, hold it, push and hold it, swipe it, or twist it to set up over 30 different commands. Customization options are available, like custom printing and removable stickers, and you can choose one in black or white.
Flic buttons have become a lot better than just an Echo Button replacement. The Flic Duo has a three-color LED light that gives better visual feedback. The Duo can work differently depending on whether it’s mounted or held in your hand, so it can be set to control lights when mounted on the wall and play music when held in your hand.
If you misplace the button, the companion app has a locator function to help you find it. There’s also fall detection and dual-level alarms, which are particularly useful for businesses, something earlier versions didn’t have. The Flic Duo is much smaller than most wall switches, measuring just 51 x 29 x 8 mm and weighing only 12 grams. It runs on a replaceable battery that can last about three years. It connects through Bluetooth 5 LE, with a range of up to 50 meters or even 200 meters if there’s a clear line of sight.
There are also plans for various accessories to make the Duo even more useful, such as a lanyard clip, a waterproof case, stickers for easier identification, and a magnetic wall mount. Pre-orders will start on January 28, 2025, on the official website. The devices are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2025, but you can pre-order from the official website.
