Thousands of pounds of food was donated to an Inland Empire book bank in an effort to combat hunger.
Amazon and food bank volunteers carried boxes of food into Feeding America, Riverside | San Bernardino on Tuesday, June 27.
Amazon’s initiative is expected to donate more than 25,000 pounds of food across Southern California by next week, Amazon spokesperson Matthew Gardea said.
“In response to the escalating hunger crisis in California impacting over 4 million people, including a startling 1.2 million children, Amazon is taking decisive action,” an Amazon news release states.
The food donations came from Amazon, Gardea said. Nearly 10,000 pounds was donated by Amazon on Tuesday, Gardea said.
Amazon also handed over a $20,000 check to the local Feeding America on Tuesday.
