The following contains major spoilers for the Apple TV+ series Severance.
Severance fans just received a major holiday gift from Apple TV+, as the streamer recently released the first eight minutes of the Season 2 premiere ahead of its January debut.
Now streaming on Apple TV+, the first eight minutes of the Season 2 premiere of Severance delves straight into the fallout of Season 1’s finale, “The We We Are”, where the Macrodata Refinement team staged a breakout into the outside world. The opening begins with Mark Scout (Adam Scott) traversing the endless hallways of Lumon Industries, in a confused panic as he learns that some aspects of the building have mysteriously changed. He winds up back at the Macrodata Refinement department only to discover that his colleagues are gone, replaced with a new team before the menacing Milchick (Tramell Tillman) walks in and invites him to his new office, where Cobel used to be before being let go.

The premiere of Severance season two drops on Apple TV+ in January.
From there, Milchick explains to Mark that the Macrodata Refinement team have become international celebrities, having been dubbed the new face of “severance reform”. He notes that the rest of his team refused to return to Lumon, though Mark doesn’t seem to buy it. He insists to Milchick that he would like to hear from the rest of the team, but Milchick tells him “that’s not possible.” The eight-minute clip ends there, on a sinister note.
What to Expect in Severance Season 2
Though Milchick would have Mark and the audience believe that the Macrodata Refinement team is gone, the beloved cast members who portray Helly (Brit Lower), Irving (John Turturro), and Dylan (Zach Cherry) are all set to return for the second season. Michael Chernus, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, Dichen Lachman, and Jen Tullock are also set to reprise their roles from season one. The second season also adds newcomers Gwendoline Christie, Sarah Bock, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Alia Shawkat to the cast.

‘It’s A Very Intricate Show:’ Severance Creator Explains Season 2 Delay
Creator Dan Erickson explains the level of detail that goes into creating the show.
True to the show’s nature, plot details are being kept relatively under lock and key, but series creator Dan Erickson recently teased what is to come in the long-awaited second outing. Per a prior report, Erickson explains that the second season will be even darker, with Lumon Industries now on the defensive.
“We very much wanted to put our heroes in a scarier place because Season 1 ends with them poking the bear,” Erickson said. “They form this little rebellion, and they’re able to achieve a modicum of success with it, but the question with Season 2 was: What happens when the bear pokes back? What’s the fallout of this victory that they had? I think, without giving much away, the fallout is dire.”
The Severance Season 2 premiere drops on Apple TV+ on Jan. 17, 2025.
