Apple is Offering Rare iPhone Discounts in China But Why?

Apple is rolling out rare iPhone discounts in China as competition from local brands intensifies.

Starting January 4, the four-day promotion offers price cuts of up to 500 yuan ($68.50) on its latest models, including the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

The move mirrors a similar campaign last year ahead of the Lunar New Year.

Experts believe Apple’s latest price cuts suggest it’s willing to fight to keep its share of the world’s biggest smartphone market.

Huawei Also Slashes Prices

At the same time, Chinese tech giant Huawei has slashed prices on its high-end smartphones by as much as 20%.

“Apple’s strategy is shifting to align with changing consumer habits,” says IDC analyst Will Wong.

Why iPhone Slashed Price?

Apple has been feeling the heat from domestic brands like Vivo and Xiaomi.

While it reclaimed a spot among China’s top five smartphone makers in late 2024, its sales dipped slightly, while Huawei surged over 40%.
