LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Last July, Mayor Nic Hunter announced the Lake Charles Rebound Project which included the Enterprise Boulevard Extension Project.
Today, an open house was held to inform the community what this project means.
“The project is basically an extension of the current terminus point of Enterprise Boulevard. We will be extending Enterprise Boulevard up to Goos Boulevard,” Senior Project Manager Josh Footnote said.
However, not everyone is on board with the project. One resident of North Lake Charles shared some of his concerns now that the project is underway.
“It’s a beautiful project to who? Who’s going to enjoy it? When no one is back there, everyone is gone. It could’ve been handled better with the money after the hurricane. It could’ve been a beautiful project and could’ve been pushed westward,” resident Terrance Prudhomme said.
Prudhomme said this project hurt the spirit of the North Lake Charles community.
“Progress is certain nowadays, but I really feel like it’s a natural justification. They could’ve gone westward with the project instead of buying people out unexpectedly because a lot of homes were inherited by people,” Prudhomme said.
However, Councilmember Ronnie Harvey Jr. says that this project will be beneficial to the community.
“Well, first I hope to get more business here. I hope that we give a lot more opportunity for our residents, and basically let them know that we are not trying to undo anything they’ve been going through. This is going to be better for the community and this is a full-thinking project,” said Harvey.
As of now, there is no set date for the completion of the project.
The community open house will be open to the public again to answer any questions about this project on Thursday, July 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center at 2009 Simmons Street.
