The Gemini application for iPhone that launched Thursday gives users direct access to Google’s AI-powered virtual assistant.
Have a conversation, get advice or generate images with the app.
Google Gemini for iPhone is an AI-powered chatbot and image generator
For the benefit of those who’ve been living in a cave, artificial intelligence is the hot thing in tech. iPhone users have access to the first features of Apple Intelligence, but the AI-enhanced version of the Siri voice assistant isn’t scheduled to launch until 2025. Fortunately, there are alternatives available now for anyone getting impatient.
The latest of these is an application dedicated to Google Gemini. Among other capabilities, it can be used as a chatbot.
“Gemini Live lets you talk to Gemini in a conversational manner, including interrupting to ask questions or change the topic,” said Brian Marquardt, Senior Director of Product Management, Gemini Experiences, in a blog post. “It’s great for when you want to practice for an upcoming interview, ask for advice on things to do in a new city, or brainstorm and develop creative ideas.”
Students can ask questions of the AI, which can also provide study plans that adapt to the user’s learning style. Or have the chatbot quiz you on a topic.
A feature likely to be popular in the Google Gemini iPhone app is access to Imagen 3, which can turn text descriptions into pictures.
“Whether you’re looking for the perfect image to share in your friends’ group chat or need a unique visual for a creative project, Imagen 3’s enhanced photorealism and accuracy can bring your ideas to life with incredible detail and vibrancy,” promised Marquardt.

The Google Gemini app supports iPhones and iPad models going back years. It’s available in the App Store in the United States as well as the UK, Australia and India.
Marquardt calls it “free of charge” but there are in-app purchases. And the app also tracks the user in every way possible, including location, purchases, contacts, search history and more. This is standard procedure for Google software.
Alternatively, Gemini can be accessed through the Google app or a web browser.
