What to know

  • Instagram’s ‘Music on Profile’ feature lets you add 30-second song clips on your profile.
  • Go to your Instagram profile, tap on the note above your profile picture, and tap on the musical icon to start adding a song on your profile.

Instagram profiles are getting more musical. The recently released ‘Music on Profile‘ feature is now seeing wider availability. The aptly titled feature lets you add a song on your profile where it can live for as long as you want, or until you swap it out with another tune. Here’s how to do so:

How to add ‘Music on Profile’ on Instagram

  1. Open Instagram and tap on your profile.
  2. Above your profile picture, tap on the Share a song note.
  3. Tap on the music icon (eighth notes).
  4. Select a song from the ‘From you‘ or ‘Browse‘ tab. Or simply search for the song you have in mind.
  5. Tap on the play icon next to a song to check it out. Tap on the song to select it.
  6. Drag through the song to select a 30-second clip
  7. Once done, tap on the tick.
  8. If you like, you can add a text note below the song title.
  9. Tap on the option at the bottom to ‘Share with’ Followers that you follow back or your Close friends
  10. Tap Share to finish.
  11. You can tap on the music note above your display picture to hear what the song preview sounds like. You can also add a new music note, delete it, or change who gets to view/hear it.

Here’s a video guide for your reference. Go full screen for a better view.

When someone taps on your profile song, they’ll be able to hear it as well as like and comment on it. You can find all such interactions on your notes from the Messages screen.

It doesn’t look like Instagram will stop here. The Meta-owned app is also in cahoots with Spotify for a feature that will continuously share songs you’re currently playing. Now that’ll be a real banger. Until that time, go add some musical expression on your profile.
