The Internet Society Nigeria Chapter inaugurated its new executive council, which is to be led by Kunle Olorundare, who was elected president to serve a three-year term.
Other members inaugurated into the executive council include Vice President, Adebunmi Adeola Akinbo.
General Secretary, Nkoro Essang; Programme Secretary, Abdulrahman Barkindo Alkali; Financial Secretary, Saheed Ajibade Adedokun; Treasurer, Priscillia Igba and Public Relations Officer, Bilyaminu Umar.
Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony, Olorundare, an engineer, who served as Vice President and hitherto Acting President following the stepping down of Caleb Ogundele as President to join the Board of Trustees of ISOC Global, expressed his appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by members of the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter.
“On behalf of the newly inaugurated executive council, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for the confidence you have placed in us by overwhelmingly voting for us. We are honored and humbled to be entrusted with this responsibility, and we do not take it lightly,” Olorundare said.
He acknowledged that the confidence comes with a great deal of responsibility, but pledged to work hard to live up to the expectations of the Society and lead the chapter to new heights. “I am committed to working with the new set of executive council members to co-create a more inclusive and participatory organization, and to advance the mission of the Internet Society in Nigeria,” he assured.
Olorundare called on all members to remain involved in the chapter, adding that the new executive council is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued. He further stated that the overarching strategy for the new executive council is inclusive governance, and based on this, he unveiled a five-point agenda, which includes; establishing advisory boards on ISOC flagship programmes; reenergizing the working group (WG) model, which is already functional, by injecting new blood where necessary making proactive contributions to policies, guidelines and stakeholder forums in the Internet ecosystem developing strategies for partnership with relevant indigenous stakeholders to implement Internet-based programs and events collaborating strategically with key foreign partners in the Internet ecosystem.
