MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) —
The next time you fly out of Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR), you’ll see new technology from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
For all six lanes, passengers put everything in a bin now and it’s carry-on size, so you know what’ll fit on the plane.
Then, the bins go through a CT scan, creating a 3D image for agents.
If it’s cleared, it goes down the belt closest to the passenger, and if it needs further inspection it goes down a separate belt behind glass.
For TSA, we get increased detection capability, the ability to move bags on a 360-degree axis, it’s a better look for threats inside bags. The win for passengers, they get to keep their liquids and electronics inside their bags,” TSA Regional Spokesperson Mark Howell said.
Howell said the administration encourages passengers to place light-weight and loose items underneath heavier bags, so they don’t get pushed off while going through the machine.
He said while getting the new machines out across the country could take years, with MYR’s installation, about half of the machines across South Carolina are now installed.
