MAHUBE-OTWA joins point-in-time count of homeless
The MAHUBE-OTWA Community Action Partnership will participate in a point-in-time count by the Minnesota Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) on Thursday, Jan. 23.
According to MAHUBE-OTWA, the aim of the point-in-time (PIT) count is to help accurately determine the level of homelessness nationally. Minnesota also uses this information to measure goals of its Heading Home Plan.
MAHUBE-OTWA asks that if you or anyone you know may have slept in a camper or tent, in an abandoned building, in a car or outside on the night of Wednesday, Jan. 22, contact MAHUBE-OTWA to complete this count as well as to see what services may be available.
Homeless households may be eligible for housing assistance, according to MAHUBE-OTWA, and while there may not be immediate openings, priority may be given when openings occur.
Special information is also available for youth ages 16-24 who may be doubled up, couch hopping or in need of stable housing.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
