ZTE’s Nubia brand has announced that it will release “the first Ultra of 2023-24“, thereby possibly hinting that it will launch its next flagship Android smartphone before Samsung does. Its leaks hint at a Nubia Z60 Ultra that will be flatter on both sides compared to its predecessor.
Nubia has pioneered the flat camera hump in the RedMagic 9 Pro this year; however, the effect has only partially manifested in the rear camera peering out from Nubia’s initial teaser. It seems to have lost a lot of height compared to that of the Z50 Ultra, yet may have also dropped the central, Xiaomi 13 Ultra-esque layout.
In fact, the red-rimmed lens as shown is in fact only 1 of 3 on the back of the Z60 Ultra, found below a black one of a different shape and next to a third of a patently periscope zoom nature. At least, that is in accordance with a recent Weibo tip that alleges the Z60 Ultra will come in white as well as the black of its official posters.
The leak also hints that Nubia has made an effort to execute the classic camera look with these rear shooters; there is even a a long thin flash next to a red, Leica-esque dot in 1 corner, although it is too blurry to establish whether it might be genuine or not.
Either way, items the device’s busy rear panel will be in stark contrast to its under-display camera (UDC) screen that, again, looks an awful lot like that of the RedMagic 9 Pro. It might be driven by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and other high-end internal in the Z60 Ultra.
I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
