One of two sisters kidnapped in Louisiana was found dead in Jackson Thursday afternoon after an intensive search in two states led authorities to the man accused of taking them and killing their mother.
Tangipahoa Parish Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis told reporters 4-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead in a wooded area not far from her mother’s stolen car.
Her 6-year-old sister, Jalie Brunett, was alive and well inside the car, Travis said.
They were reported missing after their mother, Callie Brunett, 35, was found dead inside her home in Loranger, La., on Thursday morning.
Daniel Callihan, who Travis said had dated Brunett, was taken into custody in Jackson after briefly leading a U.S. Marshal on a foot chase.
Authorities found Callie Brunett’s stolen Chrysler 200 with the unharmed 6-year-old girl inside it not long after that.
“We started looking and the information we obtained took us to McComb, Mississippi, and from McComb, Mississippi, to Jackson, Mississiippi,” Travis said.
