SARANAC LAKE — It’s a hard knock life for them. On Wednesday, children rushed around the Pendragon Theatre stage, hard at work rehearsing for the opening of “Annie Jr.” tomorrow.
The play only has three showings this weekend, but each one is packed with iconic songs, quick wit and strong vocals.
“They’re crushing it,” Director Clara Walters said.
Amid the chaos of dress rehearsals, the actors expressed their excitement through shouting when they saw their friends’ costumes.
The kids stopped whatever conversation they were having when Klara Weakley walked in, dressed in a pink suit as the Oliver Warbucks’ secretary Grace Farrell.
“It’s giving Alexander Hamilton!” one shouted.
Later, Weakley said her friends are so supportive. She started doing Pendragon plays after the coronavirus pandemic and said she loves the close family of fellow actors she’s found there. They’re all very close.
Weakley is looking forward to playing Farrell.
“She’s so organized, and I feel like I’m like that,” she said.
She loves the “Annie” script.
“It’s really fast paced,” Weakley said. “Slow moving shows are kind of boring.”
Her favorite part is when she picks up Annie from the orphanage. Bouncing her collected character off Mrs. Hannigan’s brash character is funny every time, she said.
There are matinees for “Annie Jr.” at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and a 7 p.m. show on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at tinyurl.com/yc2sb3kp. Admission cost $20 for adults and $12.50 for children 18 and younger.
