Xbox Live down – frustrated gamers left offline for hours after outage

No, don’t worry – it’s not just you. Xbox Live really is down right now. According to users of the popular gaming platform, they are experiencing a number of technical difficulties tonight including not being able to sign in. That’s left thousands of gamers seriously frustrated as they can’t play online or access popular titles such as Minecraft.

The gremlins began at around 8pm and are still ongoing making this a lengthy malfunction. According to the team at Down Detector, which monitors outages across the globe, some 30,000 reports were flooding in at one point during this evening’s rush meaning this is a serious incident that’s affecting a lot of people.

Users have also flocked to social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) to vent their anger at the outage. One Xbox fan named Ben, said: “I think it is incredibly stupid that I cannot play Minecraft because Xbox Live’s services are down.”

Another gamer named Gregg added: “Was fighting a dragon in Elden ring and got kicked out because the Xbox said the person who bought it needs to sign in, and I can’t fix it because Xbox live is down.”

While a user named Realz simply asked: “Is Xbox Live down for anyone else?”

Reports are beginning to fall – currently down to 10,000 via Down Detector’s chart – which might be a sign that Microsoft is getting things back under control but there are still a lot of users worldwide who clearly can’t log in and access the service.

Microsoft has now confirmed it is aware of the issue with its service status page stating, “You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won’t be available.”

The company has also posted a message on X saying: “We are aware that some users have been disconnected from Xbox Live. We’re investigating! Our investigation is taking longer than expected, thank you for your patience and reports!”
